Returning Clarity

 

chickadee on pinecones. a squirrel at the bird feeder. on sunflower seeds. the path. strewn. with small storm debris. gray twigs. and bark lichen. pine needles. and the early blossom. of pine flowers. the pause of a hummingbird.

I walk to the water. stiff boughs. bounce in the wind. waves bend. in the sunlight. I sit on the dock.

the quiet. overhead flight. of a crow. so close. the caw. startles me. I close my eyes. a dog barks in the distance. I slip. into breath counting. the sun warm on my face.

summer birds call. left. and right. the shrill whistle. of osprey. in high flight. over the pond. each sound. a reminder. to return. to breath counting. even the chickadee. on Goose Pond.
