River Lyrics ~ #003 May 2014 – Haiga/Haibun for Red Wolf Poems Prompt #211 – Find the River

Friendship River

I grew up on rivers. each moment on those streams. a thousand moments. ten thousand memories. a universe of Spring. Summer. Autumn. Winter.

over six. now 8. now 10 hours. now more. I listen to river songs. many by artists I like. from my childhood spring and before, to those I learned of in the last autumn moment. many I like.

each song hints at a flavor. a scent lost in sunlight. the taste of air after storm. the sound of my water being. the feel of my blood river spirit.

the lyrics reach and leave dried bits of beauty. bits of flotsam. high water lines. worn textures. on wood. and stone. these water mark remains that encompass thread headings. the life of my rivers.

I return empty.

the song I hear. are my rivers as I sit. listening. in silence. I listen. the gurgle over tumbling stones. a mountain winter. the snow in that slow lingering drip into spring. the flood rush of afternoon runoff. the smell of dead fish on the summer bank. autumn leaf boats bob in the current.

runoff spring
the high deep silence
of mountain snow

braided streams. back waters. eddies. undertows. silt. and sand. river stones. river jade. river jasper. soapstone. basalt. agate. opal. quartz. milk quartz. mica. friendship stones.

grasshoppers in summer. red sumac in autumn. ice crystals in winter. willows in spring. crickets in the clear sky, river night. mountain goats on the canyon walls. a rattlesnake in the broken grass. indian paintbrush, lupin, rock crop, cheat grass and wild onion, nettles. the paintbrush tip of my rivers. I call into the echo and wait in the following silence for the round of replies. my rivers.

one moment on my rivers. ten thousand moments of my life.

the seasons of my life

an afterthought—friendship stones—two main colors/values (the range of light and dark). the main stone predominantly one color or value and the other a solid contrasting band of stone circling and running through the first.

This is my response to the Red Wolf Poems blog #211 – Find the river May 1, 2014 prompt.

My response is in the form of haiga and haibun. Two of the many Haiku and Related Forms in the field of poetry.

Haibun is prose or poetry (other than haiku) plus one or more haiku.

Haiga is image which includes haiku as a part of the image—image and haiku as one work.
