A Loose Construction of Understanding

that pretty was mercurochrome.

that the sky did not touch the ground (yes it did and it still does).

that landscape and still life and portrait painting can be a lot of fun.

that watercolor is hard. it wasn’t. and it never has been.

that the four seasons are all the same length.

that doctors can make jokes.

that i can know more than a doctor about a nose bleed (a nose bleeding—my nose bleeding and how to stop it).

that cauterizing my nose would hurt that much.

that a blanket can not stop a bullet.

that writing could one day be fun.

that playing with words is fun.

that in love with someone and love for someone are not the same thing.

that in love can happen fast. or slow. and either way it’s powerful, fun, exciting and exhilarating.

that the word love has way too many meanings to be easily and clearly understood in a lot of situations.

that “how are you?” is a social greeting.

that the word “hombre” in Spanish can be used the same way as “man” in English and neither one has to have anything to do with gender.

that the more i knew the more i’d know i didn’t know.

that leaving home was easier than returning even though i was always welcome.

that returning to what i once knew as home rarely happens.

that sometimes not knowing can be better than knowing.

that all colors are beautiful when i place them in the right context and relationship.

that my own way was and still is the best way for me.

that cowboy boots can always be fun if i want them to be.

that sleeping with my cowboy boots on. . . . wait. never mind.

that there is a heck of a lot i don’t know about a heck of a lot of things.

that there is a heck of a lot i don’t know about a lot of things that someone else knows.

that a spell checker can actually improve my spelling.

that there are still simple words i don’t know how to spell correctly.

that hard and terrible times can become great, fun and funny stories later in my life.

that hard and terrible times can lead me to better things and better ways to live my life.

that meditation is an awesome and simple thing with an incredible amount of benefits.

that this list can go on and on indefinitely and i’d still most likely not reach the end of the list. i’ll just have to stop at some point.

that counting can be a great tool in art.

that seeing without naming is a great way to see.

that books unlock amazing worlds.

that this is where i’d stop writing and get on to image making.
