Carp Color or Floating World ~ for Carpe Diem’s Freestyle #001, Troiku Form
Floating World
colors ripple
beneath the surface
carp watch
colors ripple
in this shallow depth
I breathe
surface blossoms
drift through the sky
silence
carp watch
I pause in my floating
meditation

Troiku is a haiku related form. The troiku form was created by Kristjaan Panneman—Chevrefeuille. It consists of a “Sleigh” and three “Horses”—four haiku in all as one work.
This is one of my first attempts with the troiku form. I may not understand the troiku form completely. My troiku would break down like this:
The Sleigh:
colors ripple
beneath the surface
carp watch
Horse 1:
colors ripple
in this shallow depth
I breathe
Horse 2:
surface blossoms
drift through the sky
silence
Horse 3:
carp watch
I pause in my floating
meditation
I’ve chosen to include a title with my troiku. I do not know if this is appropriate or not. I felt with a title there was the suggestion that the four ku were meant as one work. This is something I’ve started to do with my haibun as well—that is, to include a title with the work, where as with stand-alone haiku I do not include a title with the work at all (even though I “title” the post).
My response to Carpe Diem’s Freestyle #001, in which I’ve chosen to attempt this troiku form ~ July 2013.
The informative challenge and responses to this challenge (as well as more information on the troiku form) can be found on the Carpe Diem Blog.
You are invited to respond as well.
