the first day of spring

My response to the National Poetry Writing Month Day 11 prompt “write a tanka” on NaPoWriMo—April 2013.
I’ve used the current thinking on haiku for the first three lines in the above tanka. I used the traditional syllable count on a second tanka of 5-7-5-7-7:
the sound of gray dawn
these first birds in the window
emerge from shadow
I wake in my studio
to the color of spring light
Be fun—Write Haiku or other Poetry every day in April – Aloha
