Haiga ~ image with haiku as one work.

The above haiku was first published on the Haiku Bandit Society Blog for the February 2012 Moon Viewing Party – where you can also submit work.

The NaHaiWriMo Facebook page also posts prompts – one a day – which can be used as departure points for writing daily haiku each month. You are encouraged to post one of your haiku there each day. This month the prompts are by Michael Dylan Welch and follow an alphabet theme.

I find exploring prompts will often take my haiku where it might not otherwise go. The following are haiku I’ve written in response to the NaHaiWriMo alphabet theme prompts:

Aa Apple

February 1, 2012 – Wednesday

stored in the cellar
the crunch of autumn
a crisp apple

*

how odd
to throw away the core
life

(the way I see it the haiku response need not always include the actual word in the haiku as long as I have a sense that the haiku is in some way connected to the prompt)

Bb Boat

February 2, 2012 – Thursday

a monkey boat

the banana moon
